Five AGC Officers Take On the World's Toughest Footrace
This April, five Educational and Training Services Officers from The Adjutant General's Corps will push themselves to the absolute limit in the Marathon des Sables—widely regarded as the world's toughest footrace.
The Ultimate Test of Endurance
First held in 1986, the Marathon des Sables is a gruelling six-day, 250-kilometre ultramarathon across Morocco's unforgiving Sahara Desert. What makes this challenge extraordinary isn't just the distance—it's the extreme conditions that test every aspect of human endurance.Competitors face daytime temperatures soaring above 45°C, freezing nights, towering sand dunes, rocky plateaus, and dried riverbeds under relentless desert sun. Each runner must be completely self-sufficient, carrying all their food, sleeping equipment, and supplies for the entire week. Only water and basic shelter are provided.
Why We're Running
As serving members of The Adjutant General's Corps, we're undertaking this incredible challenge to raise £10,000 for two causes close to our hearts:
Walking With The Wounded. This vital charity supports veterans and their families through employment programmes, mental health services, and care coordination. They help fellow service personnel transition to civilian life, regain independence, and rebuild their lives after sustaining physical, mental, or social wounds from their military service. As soldiers ourselves, we understand the importance of supporting those who've served alongside us.
The Adjutant General's Corps Association. Our own Corps charity preserves AGC traditions and maintains the bonds between current and former members. Most importantly, it provides crucial benevolent support to serving and ex-serving AGC personnel and their families during times of genuine hardship and distress.
Join Our Mission
From 3-13 April 2026, we'll be battling the Sahara to support these incredible causes. Every pound you donate will make a real difference to veterans and service families who need our help.
