My ten year old daughter Isla and I will be hiking up Mount Snowdon together on Saturday 27th September to raise funds for an amazing charity Children Not Numbers, working to support the innocent child victims in Gaza.
This is more than just a walk, it is an act of solidarity. A message from mother and daughter: We see you. We have not forgotten you. We believe children's lives must be protected.
WHY WE ARE DOING THIS
Like so many others around the world, Isla has seen the heart breaking images coming from Gaza of crying, starving, terrified children. She is only ten but she immediately felt the injustice and horror of what she was seeing and said, ''We have to do something. We can't just watch and do nothing."
She recently learned about the UN Rights of the Child at school - the right to be safe, to be protected from harm and violence, to not be treated cruelly. She was horrified to realise that those very rights are being violated in front of our eyes, in real time, while the world watches.
"What are all the governments doing to protect Palestinian Children?" she asked. We didn't have an answer.
At the time of writing, we know that detained children in Gaza are being beaten, stripped, denied food and water, even attacked with dogs. These are atrocities. The red lines of basic humanity have been ignored, erased and betrayed.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Children Not Numbers is a small charity working to provide immediate aid, medical evacuations and rehabilitation for some of the thousands of children starving and injured in Gaza. They remind us that behind every number is a child and a family.
We know this hike won't stop the bombs but we hope it raises awareness, solidarity and much needed funds to help children who are still living in unimaginable conditions.
If you can sponsor us - any amount, no matter how small - we would be so grateful.
With love,
Isla and Alie x
