They will take you by Abbeys, sheep, heather, curlews, market towns, spectacular views, woodlands and moor!

Kindly supported by Sutton Bank Bikes, who are providing mechanical assistance on the day.

The money raised from this event will help us support:

The North York Moors National Park Trust

At the North York Moors National Park Trust, we improve people’s lives through deep connections with the National Park. We work in partnership with others to enrich the lives of communities in and beyond the boundaries of the National Park. We do this by delivering a range of projects that educate and inspire people.

Money raised through sponsorship from the Hearts and Minds cycle ride will be used to support our delivery of outdoor activities within the National Park for the purpose of improving health and wellbeing. Future activities planned include cycle events and walks for vulnerable adults. Why not join us and ask friends to support this great joint effort!

The British Heart Foundation

The British Heart Foundation is the biggest independent funder of heart and circulatory research in the UK. We’re currently funding over 750 projects, each led by specialist cardiology professors and scientists. These projects include vital research into conditions which are less well understood, such as myocarditis. Myocarditis causes inflammation of the heart muscle. It can develop suddenly, can be recurring or it can be long-lasting. In cases like Tom Parsons, if the inflammation is severe, it can cause devastating fatalities. In the UK there are at least 300 deaths per year directly caused by myocarditis, and two-thirds of myocarditis cases are found in younger men compared to women. Funds raised from this event will be put towards research activity linked to myocarditis.

Tom’s Story

Tom was a lover of rugby, horse racing, biking, and the gym, Tom was athletic, fit and healthy. His friends were a huge part of his life, as was his girlfriend Steph. He loved his job working at Smart Flo as a plumber and was a very happy 22-year-old. At the time of his sudden death, Tom was on holiday in Zante with his friends. Initially, the diagnosis was unclear, but it appeared to be a cardiac problem that was the cause of his untimely death. After several months of further investigation, the autopsy showed the cause of Tom’s death was myocarditis. Myocarditis can rapidly progress to heart failure. The real challenge is diagnosing myocarditis and the best way to treat the disease is not known. Yet we do know that for the best outcome, an accurate early diagnosis may allow for treatment which will ultimately minimize or eliminate myocarditis progression to heart dysfunction, failure and sudden death. Our fundraising efforts will enable researchers and physicians to advance development of accurate, rapid diagnostic methods and safe, effective therapies.
