3 Peaks Challenge!
13891
A group of 13 'Climbers' (willing volunteers) and two drivers will be attempting the 3 Peaks Challenge in June 2026.
We are raising money for a number of charities, with 50% going to the National Emergencies Trust and the rest divided equally between a number of charities close to the participants (please see the below. The challenge will begin at Fort William on Saturday 6th June starting first thing in the morning. The hotel and minibus have been booked.. so there's no backing out! The aim is to complete the challenge of climbing the 3 highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon) all within 24 hours, something we know will be physically and mentally challenging but one we are all very motivated to achieve. Every donation, no matter how small, will be appreciated.
Target is a minimum of £5000!
The additional charities are;
1. The Stroke Association - Nominated by Louise - “Hi, it’s Dad. Problem, big problem. Mum’s had a stroke. It’s not looking good”.
Instant numbness followed and those words still haunt me today. Ordinarily, I’d have jumped in my car and raced to the hospital however this was no ordinary situation. They were on holiday in the USA and nowhere near a major hospital. Mum had suffered from a severe haemorrhagic stroke and the bleed was the size of a baseball. She was flown by emergency air ambulance to Montana after a neurosurgery team agreed to operate. The following 3 weeks were excruciating; long emotional days, complex discussions with neurosurgeons and neurology, with comments such as “she may never wake up” and “do you know what her wishes were?”, all thrown in for good measure. After repatriation back to the UK, the trauma continued as we battled with consultants who advised that they would never have operated and that mum would eventually succumb to infection. However, my mum is alive thanks to the surgeons who said ‘they could’. I want to raise awareness of the differences in treatment and care; to walk for every person’s right to have the opportunity to fight for a chance to recover; to thank the nurses and physiotherapists who worked with mum to get her home after 5 months; for the carers who look after her now; for my team at work who supported me through it all; for my family and for my dad, who, despite everything he went through and is still going through today, has shown such inspiring resilience, dedication and love. Why am I doing this challenge? Hope.'
2. Dementia UK - Nominated by Sophie - 'Dementia UK is a significant charity for me after experiencing a Dementia diagnosis affect a close family member, my Nan. For a while as a family, we chose to ignore the symptoms and make excuses in denial to the Dementia diagnosis, however Dementia UK is a charity that aids a formal diagnosis and understanding of the condition and how it progresses, so that families can learn the process of Dementia and how to manage it. The charity also supports the individual caring for someone with Dementia which I believe from experience is vital for both individuals, such as my Grandad who goes to the ends of the earth to care for my Nan. The charity also assists in financial and legal issues, something no one should have to worry about when dealing with the awful disease. Finally, with a Dementia diagnosis, you almost lose that person twice over, Dementia UK provides emotional support, including anticipatory grief, bereavement and loss.'
3. Let's Talk Hope (Yemini Community Association) - Nominated by Abbie - 'Lets Talk Hope are a small charity who offer a safe and free space for people with cancer (and their families) to have support. My nan was part of their support group in the year or so leading up to her death at the end of last year – she made friends there who she could confide in about her journey and share real life worries with others who understood. Staff there gave her space to talk and cry and laugh, whatever she needed during her visits. They were open and honest with her about what she was likely to experience and helped her put things in place for when it was her time, it gave her some comfort in a scary time.'
4. The British Heart Foundation - Nominated by Michelle - 'A charity very close to my heart. My husband developed mitral valve prolapse and heart failure as a result of intensive chemotherapy he received during cancer treatment. The British Heart Foundation is instrumental in pioneering research, improving treatments, and providing education and support for those living with heart conditions, helping people to mange their illness and live longer, fuller lives.'
5. Alzheimer's Society.
6. Macmillan Cancer Support .
7. Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide.
